What role does Congress play in the formulation of health policy?

Congress plays one of the key roles in the formulation of health policy which includes Medicare, Medicaid, Veterans affairs, national institute of health and health care reform. These policies or programs became beneficial for republican and democrats. Many communities have the power over distinct policies and programs, which include program structure, regulations, financing and oversight. The involvement of congress in the discipline of health care does not only focus on the single subject but it creates the sequence of measures since 1965 in the health care. Initially congress introduced the first policy of Medicare and Medicaid in 1965, after that it the employee retirement income security act was formulated in the year of 1974. Later on, it launched Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990 and family medical leave Act in the year of 1993. Moreover, Congress also introduced number of health care policies for the benefit of American's health. The significant effort of the congress works as the chief system of policy making for the US's citizens. These factors became the influential part in the health care policy of United States (KaiserEDU (1), 2013).

Congress operates in multiple stages of decision making. The Congress of United States is consisted on the representatives of both the House and Senate. The Congress meets in the capital of U.S, Washington, D. C. Regardless of the population of the state; each state has 2 members that represent in the Senate. It should be noticed that the Senate has particular authorities that the house does not have, which includes the acceptance of treaties as a precondition to their confirmation of the appointments of military officers, Cabinet secretaries, federal judges, and other federal government officials.
