Health Inequities

Introduction

Health inequities are the concept of unfair treatment and differences in health statues among social groups, populations or individuals. The social determinates are the ones that lead to the individual and social group differences in and health inequities. The paper presents various aspects of health inequities along with the variables that cause this inequitable distribution. An example has been highlighted from a case study to explain the inequitable distribution of health. The paper also includes the historical perspectives of health inequity and the model that are currently supporting in enhancing the inequitable distribution factors in the health care industry.

Health Inequities

The health inequities are preventable and the existence of the health inequities is due to various factors that include the social, economic, and environmental conditions. It identifies the risk of people getting victims of diseases and illness, along with their ability to prevent these problems and find the right opportunities to get the right access for the desired treatments. Health inequities are repeatedly observed as a social slope with a decrease in the health care with the occurrence of decreasing social position. This factor in the health care industry is not limited to certain countries, or the ones with weak economic conditions, but it is rather a global issue (Wibulpolprasert, 1999, pp. 02).

The factor of health inequities exists in all the regions around the globe. This factor is highly influenced by the activities and actions of the groups, individuals, communities, or other stakeholder of a nation. There are two aspects of health inequities which are referred to as the horizontal and vertical inequity. The horizontal equity is the unequal and unbalanced treatment of the patients or people from all social groups in same circumstances. The vertical inequity works on the principle that the people who are unequal must be treated in a different way according to their desired level of need (Alleyne, 2005, pp. n.d ). Disparities in the health care industry are the outcomes of a methodical, avoidable and unfair social and economical policies or practices that create hurdles and resistance to opportunities.

Social Determinants of Health

The social determinants of health are mainly the economical and social factors and their distribution between the populations. They are also referred to as the elements that are present in an individual's working as well as the living conditions, like the income distribution, wealth, and the power influence, rather than the individual components like behavioral risks. According to some point of views, the social determinants are caused by the policies established by the government (Marmot & Wikinson. 2006, pp. 06). These policies reflect the political ideology of those governing an authority. According to the WHO - World Health Organization the inequality factors in the health care industry are creating health hazards and damaging experiences for the people.
