Introduction

Stress Management consist of a number of techniques used to control an individual's stress level so that they can function normally in their daily lives. An extreme form of stress can be stated as a person's response to an intense, traumatic incident. Torture, rape, accidents, physical injuries, death of a close person, life-threatening disease, threat of death or even natural calamities may include in such events (National Institute for Clinical Excellence, 2005). This paper critically examines the stress management and psychological health within our society and analyzes the different ways in which we can deal with stress. Social and emotional health works as the relating part in psychological health while emotional health works as the feeling part of psychological health. A person that has a good social health has the ability to express beliefs and opinions to others, listen, for relationships and act responsibly

Symptoms of Stress There are main categories defined related to stress1. Re-experiencing

An individual might be facing nightmares, flashbacks or frightening thoughts, which can become the main source of stress for people. These individuals re-experience these stressors, which cause hindrance in the daily routine of an individual (National Institute of Mental Health, 2010). 2. Avoidance symptoms

The avoidance symptoms involves the guilty feeling, numbness, detachment or even depression causing the person to refrain from events, places, people or even objects that makes them remember of the dreadful experiences (National Institute of Mental Health, 2010).



3. Hyper arousal People that are suffering from stress develop insomnia, irritability, impaired concentration, frequent outburst, and hyper vigilance depicting an edgy behavior. The symptoms of hyper arousal are different from other two, as they usually tend to remain constant opposed to being triggered by events that make them remember the tragic events. They become the reason of the person being in a constant state of stress and anger, while at the same time restrict them from carrying out their daily routine tasks such as sleeping, eating or working (National Institute of Mental Health, 2010).

Dealing with stress Scientists and health practitioners have been trying to battle stress for more than fifteen years. Stress can be treated in many ways. Some of them are:

Medication

According to FDA, Paxil and Zoloft are two of the most commonly used medications to help patients fight from posttraumatic stress disorder. However, beside from medication, therapy also plays an important role in treating stress. (National Institute of Mental Health, 2010)

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy involves the need to see a health professional in order to fight with the stress that is the cause of traumatic incident. It can be done in the form of a group or on individual level, carried over a period of 6-12 weeks.

Organizing your time

Making use of a calendar to keep track of deadlines, events and important dates helps in reducing a lot of burden, which eventually leads to lower stress level. It also allows you to properly planning things and keeping a healthy balance between both work and social life.
