Health and Safety plan for the apartment building site
Health and Safety plan for the apartment building site
Introduction
In order to consider a safety plan for the apartment, first of all it is essential that each building structure should follow certain legal requirements regarding hazards such as; fire. The special safety plan is to ensure that all the personnel working under the premises of the apartment should have proper awareness of the safety rules (Aitken, 1998). The plan is to provide enough information to the labor when working for the construction of the apartment that they remain safe against any potential hazard. Now, the plan should cover the whole building process and also implement after it is written. There is the stage during the construction process where plan is written.
Building Information
This is a five story apartment building located in New Zealand (ground plus four). All the above four floors are residential apartments. Dimension recorded for this building site are 91'-0” by 105'-0” and, it is 60 feet tall. The concrete block infill walls are recorded as 10” thick. The building is a new built and there is no need of condition assessment and repairs.
Hazard Information
The national building Code of New Zealand is described in the building regulations of 1992 and the Building Act 2004 (Aitken, 1998). This code is dependent on functional requirement for building performance in order to comply for the intended use. This is the performance based code and, do not exactly tell people how to build but set certain objectives for the building site (Busby and Stantec, 2007).
As we know that there is uncertainty about the city's seismic hazard. My safety plan highlight the building in Zone 3 because of the uniform building code of 1997 with seismic coefficients such as; Ca= 0.5, Cv=0.5. Therefore; this site is not located near any active faults.
According to the regulations of New Zealand, the building code should include two general clause and 35 technical clauses (Aitken, 1998). There are 35 approval documents which provide acceptable solutions and verification methods.
Results Summary
Tier 1 is indicating some vulnerabilities but linear analysis indicates that building is stable and well designed. Considering the results, it is found that two beams are failed in combined shear and torsion check, but there is no need of retrofitting because nearby beams are supporting the collapse.
Now we see what regulations are important in relation with fire safety in these buildings according to the building control act of 1990 (Busby and Stantec, 2007). There are also fire services act of 1981 and 2003 which help in the evaluation and implementation of the fire safety plan. Management of fire safety may include the maintenance of all the fire safety devices and also several systems that are installed within the premises of building (Ministry for the Environment, 2007). Let's start with the safety plan and consider the components which are necessary to include in the safety plan, because after reviewing the building process, it is essential to compile a ...
