Health Affecting Community

The determinants of health include the combined effects of physical and social media on individuals and communities (Bandura, 2004). The health of individuals and the community is influenced by different factors which include: the place where we live, environmental conditions, genetic factors, income and educational level of individuals and the network of social and economic relations.

The information on the determinants of health possibly explains the tendency of health of a specific population group and to understand the differences in health conditions among different social groups that make up a given society. The Lalonde Report (1974) is a document of great contribution to the discussion on the determinants of health (Hancock, 1986). In it, the field of health can be divided into four major interrelated elements that influence the health of individuals, namely: human biology, environment, lifestyle (or behavior of individuals) and the organization of health services. The analysis in this report supposed to depart from the categories lifestyle; human biology and the environment establish specific relationships that contribute to the illness. Consider investments in these three areas as key components that intensely contribute significantly to the improvement of human health, more than the actual expansion of the system of health services.

In the following decades, developments in the area of ??social epidemiology have shown that an individual's risk of disease can not be considered in isolation from the risk of disease in the population to which the individual belongs and which behaviors are not distributed randomly in societies, and that the choices of individuals occur in social contexts (Stoddart, 2002).
