Introduction

Health is the basic necessity of life. In order to stay healthy, it is important that an individual; should have a controlled body weight. The extra body fats can be reduces, if in case the individual is obese. It can be achieved through exercises and dieting.

According to the world health organization, health is the state of complete well being if an individual, including his social, mental and physical status. It is not just a disease free state, but demands that the body should be kept in shape. by the body shape, it is necessary that the weight of an individual should be appropriate considering his age, sex and height into account.

The weight of an individual is a very important factor that plays key role in maintaining the health. Being over weighted and under weighted, both can lead to health issues.

Obesity

Obesity is the condition of being over weighted. An abnormal increase in the weight can cause different problems. It can lead to the formation of plaque, which in turn will lead to coronary heart diseases. Other health issues include stroke, type 2 diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure and vice versa (National heart, lung and blood institute, 2012).

Techniques to reduce weight

There are two basic approaches applied to reduce the weight.

Exercise

Dieting

Exercise

Exercises are considered as the best way to stay healthy. At least thirty to sixty minutes of daily exercise is necessary to stay healthy. For obese people, exercise can be exhausting and difficult. It is important that they should not exhaust themselves, and initiate slowly with light exercises. Routine walk, jogging, and gardening are also good exercises to stay in shape and lose weight (Capital Blue cross, 2009).
