Introduction
This paper assesses the movie “Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone,” which was directed by Chris Columbus. This movie was based on the novel written by J. K. Rowling and was released in 2001. The movie starring Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley and Emma Watson as Hermione Granger. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone turned out to be a great success and have seven sequels. This was noticeably becoming a popular franchise of children and a fictional phenomenon, which appeal the audiences of all ages and across the world. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is a compelling story which had an immense blend of danger, adventure and humour, as well as more than a magic sprinkle and that might be idyllic to make a blockbuster movie.
The storyline of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone revolved around a young English orphan who lived with his uncle's family in Surrey, England. The behaviour of his relatives with him was terrible where he was housed in a cupboard. The life of Harry was miserable; however, he appears to have inexplicable abilities, which come out when he was angry or in trouble, which makes weird things occurred around him. Thanks to such strange incidents his ordinary and stuffy relatives avoid and terror him more, being as they are, the normality paragons, a virtuous British suburban life's image (Dillman, 2005, pp.143-50).
On Harry's 11th birthday, he suddenly received a letter from an unlikeliest school of Witchcraft and Wizard, Hogwarts, to inform that he has been accepted to learn magical arts. This exposure opened a magical world, which is dangerous. He went to this strange school leaving his relatives and his dreary life, and entered into an exciting and new world of witches and wizards that are present in the world of Muggles (normal people). In Hogwarts, Harry made two friends: Hermione Granger who was a serious, clever and studious girl; and Ron Weasley who was a humorous, loyal and red headed boy, with whom Harry shared his adventurous. He also befriends with the Head Master Albus Dumbledore and half giant Hogwarts, Hagrid. However, he also made few enemies, a fellow student Draco Malfoy and a Magic Potions Master Severus Snape who persist to be a hurdle in his adventure all through the movie. The biggest enemy was the greatest dark wizard, the Lord Voldemort who killed Harry's parents while the boy survived by some miracle and Voldemort was mysteriously annihilated. Harry on his forehead received a scar from this misfortune and earned the title of the Boy Who Lived.
The movie is full of broom flying lessons, magic, new exciting things, Quidditch (a sport played by wizards in which they fly with broom sticks through the air), extraordinary encounters with ghosts, monsters and curious people and events.
