Introduction

Harriet Martineau was considered to be the first female philosopher to develop the concept of sociology. Her main works included the classical sociology, which mainly outlined the feminist sociology in the post war era as well as in later years. Harriet proposed a theory that there was a lot of imbalance between the two genders of male and female. The males were considered to be dominant in every sect and every part of the society, whereas the female gender has been able to contribute equally but has not received the recognition that it deserved. In addition to that, Harriet argued that the professional life, along with religion and education as well as the economical and family life could not be determined or analyzed correctly with these differences in the gender. She further stated that sociology has been presented from the perspectives of males and not the females.

The development of Harriet's theory resulted from the movements in North America and Europe. The basic theme of the theory was feminism and how the female kind has contributed as well as transformed the study of sociology, even though they lacked physically from the male kind. The main theme highlights the inequality between the male and the female. Various other thinkers and theorists have been able to provide solutions to overcome these differences and presented a world where both the genders could work together. In addition to that, Harriet has played a major role in determining the reasons for which the theory of feminism should be included in the classical sociological theory.

Discussion

One of the first reasons that I could come up with is the inequality between the genders under capitalism. It is widely known that the men dominate all the aspects including the job world. The modern world is an ever changing world. It has given the female kind a chance to walk step by step with the male kind. They have been provided with an equal opportunity to progress and facilitate their experience as well as knowledge. However, there still lies a great inequality between the two genders. The male are provided with more opportunities as compared to the females. They have been given better chances than the female kind as well.
