In the year 2007, value based phasing program was initiated by The Centre for Medicare and Medicaid Services (C.M.S.) that links the payment and the quality of the provided care. One of the important aspects of the program initiated by C.M.S is to consider the hospital acquired conditions.

Introduction

C.M.S. has included 10 categories of hospital acquired conditions in the year 2009 in a document titled Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS). Out of the ten selected categories, falls and trauma is the important one. The range of trauma includes a number of categories including fractures, crushing injuries, burn etc. The most prevalent injuries from falls is considered to be fractures. (Stevens, 2003). A coordinated fashion assumes to be prevalent in the context of improving Medicare and the quality of Medicaid. Falls and Trauma are becoming an important consideration in the patient's life and being a member of the category of C.M.S. hospital acquired conditions, it has associated itself with a quality management perspective having a number of legal implications and accreditation expectations bringing about effective outcomes. The assignment will be highlighting each of these aspects by focusing on each of the subject element along with the issues related with them.
