Introduction

My son the fanatic is a story of an immigrant from Pakistan. The underlying theme of this novel is the struggle of Asian immigrants face in a foreign company that refuses to accept them, treat them as equals and the ways to deal with alienation. There is a marked contrast in how Pervez and his son Ali according to the sense of belonging and being part of society. (John 2007) With all the commitments and lost Pervez suffers in his migration, but that seems to have them as part of their experience and adventure of life seems to him worth the price. (Bart 2001)

The short story My Son the Fanatic is written by British author Hanif Kureishi. He grew up in England in 1950 and 1960, the son of a Pakistani immigrant and an English woman. He studied philosophy and began writing novels at an early age. Being the son of an immigrant, most of his novels unravel the difficulties and challenges a lot of immigrants face in their new country, especially the difficulties of finding a place to belong. Some of the most famous Kureishi scripts and novels include My Beautiful Laundrette and The Buddha of Suburbia. (John 2007)

Parvez, the father of the child Ali, began noticing changes in the behavior of his son and at first looks like a good thing. He believes his son is finally growing out of his adolescent attitude and taking more responsibility. However, when Ali starts throwing valuables and his friends began to avoid, Parvez is seriously concerned and feel as if your child is ungrateful and that he has done something wrong as a parent. (John 2007)

Finally, open your colleagues to immediately believe that Ali has a drug problem and they are selling their belongings to pay for medication, which later is revealed to be flawed since it is taking their belongings to charity. Parvez begins watching every move of Ali does, but can not find that anything is physically wrong with your child. (John 2007)
