Guidance and Policy to Support Civil Rights and Civil Liberties

Introduction

Protection of civil rights and civil liberties is possibly the most fundamental political value in American Society. People are usually confused about these two terms. Civil liberties are protections against the actions of government, whereas, the term civil rights is always related to the protection of minorities such as Hispanics, women, and African American. In American, civil liberties and civil rights are protected by Department of Homeland Security. The intersection between homeland security of America and its civil liberties and civil rights is fascinating in the law. This activity is very critical for the department as it is very difficult to protect nation from several threats faced. The office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties support the mission of the department to secure the country while preserving people' equity, liberty, and fairness under the law (www.dhs.gov). CRCL of DHS promotes respect for civil liberties and civil rights in policy creation and implementation. They communicate with communities and people whose civil liberties and rights are affected by the activities of the department and inform them avenue and polices of redress. The office of CRCL investigate and resolve complaints of civil liberties and civil rights filled by the public regarding the activities and policies of the department and it lead the equal employment opportunities of the department and also promote workforce diversity (www.dhs.gov). In this paper, I as program analyst with the DHS am going to develop policy and guidance to support civil right compliance and provide recommendations to address complex civil right issues.
