There are many definitions of groups. However, while the discussion of group work theories in the context of working with youth; group can be defined as small number of people gathered for a common task. Group-work of the study and application of procedures and results that people come across when they form a group. This paper will discuss the outline of theories of group work theories and the process of group formation.

According to the six theories of group work, the work-based relationship is the fundamental variable for group dynamism. Most of the theories advocate quality in the interaction between leadership and member. All the theories impel the leadership into an active role, especially for the provision of optimum therapeutic circumstances. It has been proposed that similar roles of members also permeate all the hypothetical principles. Moreover, all the theories agree to the fact that members eventually are required to take responsibility for changing what they want to change. The procedure of group work represents most diversity of five dimensions, however, the variations are present in “how” and “why” rather than “what” of the process. All the theories are alike in the consequences variable and each theory is centered on the evoking of positive change. Most significantly, the leadership of the group is required to take his/her knowledge of several experiments and theories with various methods and they should strive to discover the approach that is most appropriate for the group. The developed approach should be reflection of the personal philosophy of leadership of the group and its personal style.
