The natural greenhouse effect maintains the Earth's temperature suitable for life sustenance. The economic and industrial developments have led to an increase in greenhouse gases. The increment is causing global warming (Houghton & George, 2009, p 36).

The world economic forum conducts a survey every year to assess the type and severity of global risks. The current year's risk report stresses upon the effects of greenhouse gas emissions on global climate. The global gas emissions have become a direct threat to the environment in recent years (Frankel, 2011, pp. 128).

The developing countries like the United States of America and China have escalating economies. The soaring economic conditions are a contributor to increment in greenhouse gas emissions. The governments throughout the world face dilemma of either boasting economy or protecting the environment (Meinshausen et.al, 2009, p. 1160).

The continual increase in greenhouse gas emissions is responsible for the climatic and weather events throughout the world. The climate change has resulted in an increased frequency and severity of natural disasters. The greenhouse gases are causing a gradual but consistent increase in average surface temperature of Earth. The average temperature is expected to climb 4C by the year 2060 (World Economic Forum, 2013). The increased temperature causes a rise in sea level and other associated natural hazards (Meinshausen et.al, 2009, pp. 1161).

Stakeholders affected by GHG emission risk

The greatest impact of GHG emission is on the environment of the planet. The risk has been increasing over the years (Ekins, n.d, pp. 85-91). It has reached a point where uncontrolled emissions would be devastating for not only the environment but also for the global economy. People from the entire globe need to take part in designing of methods, which may simultaneously control GHG emissions and develop the economy. GHG emission risk is so great that it is affecting life on every level (Yarrow, 2008, pp. 36-74). Farmers are affected by unpredictable weather conditions. Unexpected rains and/or draughts have become more frequent in many areas of the world.
