Weddings are extremely ritualized rites of passage that have conventionally functioned to transform a single woman and man into a wife and husband. In countries spurred by the Industrial Revolution, weddings have again and again grown more detailed among the upper and middle classes (Goldblatt, 2011, p.109). The preferred option in Western developed countries is the “white” or lavish wedding, so named since it classically features the bride in a formal white gown and the ceremony in a church setting. Other major features of the lavish wedding take in attendants, church decorations, flowers and increasingly sophisticated receptions for instance sit-down dinners with disc jockeys or bands and a dance floor, fancy modes of transportation like limousines, an artistic wedding cake and gifts. On the other hand, Eco-friendly weddings are a going up trend among the modern youth (Monger, 2012, p.545). There are a number of ways by which the couple can do their bit in making their wedding eco-friendly. Numerous couples contentedly agree and match up upon arranging a green wedding to honour their environment. And the most wonderful aspect is that a green wedding can be as grand and elegant as a modern day wedding and can yet persuade the wedding guests to pursue a greener lifestyle.

The first one is the greener wedding article from the UK government which offers a background in understanding of planning "greener" weddings. It tells how people can actually make a difference on their wedding day in quite a lot of ways (Greener weddings, 2012). It give several ideas for making a wedding eco-friendly, for instance, it tells that emailing the wedding invitations saves energy and resources both. On the other hand it also enlightens how postal invitations can be made greener that is by utilizing a paper that is either from sustainable forests or is recycled (Greener weddings, 2012). Moreover, it also offers interesting ideas on the subject of greener wedding gifts; that is buying online gifts from websites that offer lists of eco-friendly items. Furthermore, this article offer appealing environment friendly ideas on the wedding clothes of bride and groom. It enlightens the readers with the fact that loads of resources and materials are utilized in making the wedding clothing, however majority of the outfits are just worn one time only (Greener weddings, 2012). Thus, buying clothes that can be worn again and again is a greener way for a couple to celebrate their wedding. This article also provides useful information on choosing a venue for the wedding that reduces the travelling of the guests and transforms an ordinary wedding into a greener wedding (Greener weddings, 2012).
