Introduction

In Hesiod's work, the battle between Zeus and the Typhon is of significant importance. The overviews along with the reasons of the battle are provided in the introduction section. Furthermore, the critical analysis of both the characters is also discussed in the paper. The aggression of Gaia did not come directly after the insult (Powell, 1995). Zeus could therefore be prepared. As the Giants face the gods were immortal, Zeus joins Alcmene and fathered Hercules. However, Gaia was a grass that will push its children invisible to humans and immortals their shots. For this she gave birth to giants which it is to ingest a magical herb providing power and immortality when they are in their homeland. Zeus was set up in the woods of Crete and was fed with honey and goat's milk. And so when he grew up was the path of his father to fight it, they became great enemies; Zeus forced his father to swallow a magic drink that restored all the children who had eaten in the past (Schmidt, 1962).

The location of the battle takes place on the Phlegra, homeland of the Giants gives them their immortality. The two enemies are advancing in battle, but the Giants will quickly dominate the Gods who will wipe their first affront. Armed with torches, spears and incredible strength, the Giants are almost unbeatable. Typhon was when Gaia wanted revenge on Zeus for how he overthrew Cronus, her beloved son. She came to this end to Tartaros, the personification of the pit of hell, and asked him to beget a child who will be able to overthrow Zeus. Tartaros willingly agreed to this, and after spending the night with the goddess, that made two eggs. From one hatched Echidna, and the second Typhon, the father of all monsters (Schwab, 1996).

Discussion & Analysis of the Characters

Zeus

Zeus - the thunder god was the son of Cronus and Rhea. Cronos had the habit of devouring their own children not to take his place on the throne. Until that Zeus was born and his mother Rhea already tired of so much blood and suffering gave Cronus a stone wrapped in place of Zeus, saving his life. Rhea Zeus decided that would be the last child and would end the reign of blood and suffering and take the throne from his father. Zeus had the power of atmospheric phenomena and was lightning and thunder with his right hand and threw the rain, he could use his strength as destructive, but also sent rains for the crops (Graves, 1992).

Zeus married three times, his first wife Metis was the goddess of wisdom and she had her daughter Athena. His second wife Themis was the goddess of justice. And his third wife was his sister Hera and she had several heirs, but that was the only legitimate son of Hera and Zeus was Ares, who was the god of war.
