The research with a title “Grandparents raising grandchildren in Australia: exploring Psychological health and grandparents' experience of providing kinship care” was conducted by Dunne & Kettler in the year 2008.

Summary

The major idea behind this research is increasing responsibilities of grandparents as they have to take care of their grandchildren. There are many reasons for the grandparent were the caretaker of their grandchildren it includes their parents death, teenage pregnancy and mental illnesses. Psychological inventories of depression, anxiety and stress were administered as the results of the study depicts that the depression, anxiety and stress is related to the socio economic status of the grandparents that have a negative impact on upbringing of a child.

Insight

As an article critique, certain issues that are identified from this research are the family issues, concerns and problems that are acquaint with the upbringing of grandchildren by their grandparents. As the psychological impact on grandchildren that are facing social, emotional and behavioral issues and it also incorporates psychological issues that exist with grandparents while raining their grandchildren's. The idea that is significant depicts “grandparents are coping with their own stress, anxiety and depression as well as trying to parent grandchildren who are exhibiting negative emotions and challenging behaviors” There is the age difference that exists in copying up with a grandchild as grandparents at this age needs counseling and psychological assessment to recover their depression, anxiety and to reduce their stress level.

Self Reflection

The self reflection regarding this research is that there are numerous issues arise when the child upbringing is in the hands of their grandparents. The feeling of grief, shame, anger and guilt arises in the child. Their routines abrupt and the grandparents feel unstable. In these situation children, results in isolation as their need for spending time with their parent is unfulfilled. Besides this on the part of their grandparents they suffer from stress, anxiety and depression as it is difficult for them to handle this responsibility in the old age. Grandparent at this age is facing troubles of upbringing the child. This responsibility has a psychological impact and they feel overburdened while raising their grandchild.

Summary

This research depicts psychological issues arise in grandparents life due to poverty and economic constraints while caretaking of their grandchild. It was a quantitative research approach was used to analyze data. The participants were grandparents with minimum five years of caretaking experience. The basic reason for psychological provenance in their live is due to poverty as poverty has a great impact in a child's life.
