Introduction

There are many cultural conflicts throughout the movie. It not only showed cultural conflict, but it also had a lot of non-verbal communication in the movie. It showed the value of having a family together, living together, and the problems faced without a male head. The film starts with a death, ends with a death. The neighborhood of Walt is multi-cultural, speaking different languages. It shows the relationship and the building of communication period between a young, Thao and an old man, Walt. It shows the difference, yet the unity and similarity between people with different complexions, black and white (McCracken, 1).

Cultural Conflicts

The one scene that strikes the most is the scene where the main character is outside looking at his lawn, and then he looks to the neighbor's dead grass. He was mumbling the whole time that why can't they take care of their lawn. Then the old lady comes out yelling at him in her language and telling him why he doesn't move out that all the white people have already moved out. Then he spits on their lawn. This could be considered non-verbal (the spitting part). This is conflict because neither of them understands each other. The conflict is perceived incompatible differences that result in interference or opposition (McCracken, 1).

The three points of view of conflict is the traditional view which holds that any conflict should be avoided, the point of view of human relations that holds that conflict is natural and inevitable in any organization and the interactions view that holds some conflict is necessary for the organization to perform effectively. The differences in communication are disagreements that arise from semantic differences, misunderstandings and noise in communication channels.

People often assume that most conflicts are caused by lack of communication; there is usually great communication in almost all conflicts. Basic premise about the conflict has been that it is a natural process in any society, necessary for human life that is productive or destructive depending on how to regulate it.
