Introduction

This assignment is focused on comparing and contrasting the two most famous names on internet which are Google and Facebook.

Google

Google started in 1996 in the form of project by Sergey Bin and Larry Page. Both Sergey and Larry were studying at the Stanford University in California. They received a research project in which they made a plan to develop a searcg engine which will rank the websites in accordance with the oher websites which are linked to it. this plan has changed into Google. Before their search engine, the other engines ranked sites only on the basis of the number of times that the searched term appeared on the webpage. These both also started to make the other aware of it. their domain was registered on 14th September, 1997 and the Google Corporation was developed in September 1998.

In 2000, Google corporation started to sell the advertisements of its keyword searches due to which Google Adsense/Adwords was initiated. All these advertisements were using a system which was based on pretence which meant that the person only paid for the advertisement when some other person had clicked on the ad link. This resulted in introducing the system of pay per click.

In September 2001, their term PageRank was patented. This term was initially based and named after the co-founder Larry Page. In 2001, Larry stood down as being the CEO of the corporation and the former CEO of the Novel Eric Schmidt was appointed as the new CEO of the company. In 2003, the company shifted to its google estate in the Montainview California.

The corporation launched its free internet based email service called Gmail in 2004. This new service was the rival to the other two email services which were internet based namely Hotmail and Yahoo. This new email service of the company shook the bases of the free mail as it had an email storage of 1GB (www.submittoday.com).

The google corporation started the Goodle Earth in 2004 which is a map of Earth which is based on the satellite imagery. Through this interactive globe of work, when a search of any place is done, the software takes you directly to that place. The most attractive part was that though it, one could zoom to the level of the street to locate the exact house and street.

In September 2005, the company formed a new partnership with the NASA. It consisted of developing a research and development centre of 1 million square foot at the Ames Research Center of Nasa.this wal followed by the launch of the Google Moon and Google Mars which were the application of Google Maps which was built on the pictures of planet Mars and moon.

Google Video was launched in 2006 by Google Corporation. It is a new form of search tool through which the internet can be searched for videos. It can look for all types of videos ranging from the homemade videos to the various television shows that are ...
