Introduction

Hindu people pay their highest regards to the various female goddesses, due to the mythological beliefs that such Goddesses have extreme powers. The people consider the Goddesses as their role models, for all the matters of life and death (Baring and Cashford, 1993). Lakshmi is one of such Hindu Goddesses who is known as Goddess of wealth, prosperity and beauty. She remains a source of inspiration for Hindu people, mainly for her characteristics of obedience and beauty. Daily, millions of Hindus around the world worship this Goddess, who assures them to bring comfort, healing and good fortune in their lives. This essay describes the significance of Goddess Lakshmi for the Hindu culture and contemporary women, the major stories associated with her, the domain of her influence, and the festivals associated with her.

Goddess Lakshmi is considered as the Goddess of wealth and prosperity in Hindus, worshipped all around the world. She is assumed to be the Goddess of both spiritual as well as physical prosperity. The Hindu women consider Lakshmi as a household Living Goddess and she is the most favorite of all women. She is not only the Goddess of wealth and prosperity but also known for feminine charm and loveliness (Squidoo, 2013). Since the earliest times of Indian traditions, Goddess Lakshmi has been considered as mother Goddess; she has been called not only the goddess but the mother of Goddesses.

The girls consider Lakshmi as their best friend. She is known for the fact that she brings comfort to the hearth even when they are going through the darkest and toughest moments of their life (Brockway, 2005). The mate of Goddess was a God himself, as discussed in the next section; while, a guy was the best friend of the Goddess. The Hindu ladies pay more honors to the Goddess due to the fact that she looks like them; she is divine and offers power, courage and hope to the women.

Lakshmi is the Goddess to which the people turn to whenever they face difficult situations in their life. For example, when they need help with job searching, for financing their business, for patching up with their loved one and many more. It is a common belief that Lord Ganesha is the one who can clear one's path from the obstacles, and open the closed doors for a person. Thus, it is considered that Ganesha clears the obstacles so the Lakshmi starts delivering fortune to a person.
