Thesis statement

The United States of America as a nation is most guilty of contributing towards global warming. Rather than focusing on interfering in matters of other countries and acting as an international police, it is time for all Americans to start policing the global environment. The initiative can be taken by starting work back at home and implementing stringent measures to control the menace of pollution. With great power comes great responsibility, but being the most powerful nation of the world, America has been nothing else but the most irresponsible nation on earth when it comes to protecting the global environment.

Introduction

Global warming is indeed one of the greatest challenges that the entire race of humanity faces. It is a problem that is usually hushed down by the American government, but one which without doubt threatens the very existence of entire mankind. It is a sort of plague that is set to spread slowly but one that would find its way throughout the world eventually. It besets the earth, its inhabitants, and the world economies with an enormous challenge. George Washington once said that with great power comes great responsibility. Being the leading nation in the world, the Americans have the greatest responsibility in this regard to create awareness about the threat that exists due to global warming. The time, energy and resources spent in wars abroad need to be spent elsewhere. Rather than calling for dictators to enforce democracy, or finding one pretext after the other to engage in wars with other nations, or to interfere in their matters, would not it be a good idea to ask them to instead enforce measures to control global warming. The world as a whole is a much worthier cause for going to war instead of fighting for control of natural resources.

In this regard, it is imperative that the future hazards posed by global warming must be realized. There is no denying them after hearing and reading the reports of thousands of scientists around the world who have stated over and over again the risks of global warming. Some of the risks have already been realized into reality. The clock is ticking by and the later we realize this risk and take steps to contain them, the more difficult it would be to come up with successful results. The action must be promptly taken.

Discussion

Global warming is not just about acid rains, CO2 build up in the atmosphere or the rise in the intensity of heat waves and storms. It is about much more. It is about preserving life, ensuring the safety of future generations, and much more importantly ensuring that mankind as a race continues to thrive (Atkinson, Hackler, 2010).
