Gertrude and Ophelia

Gertrude and Ophelia are not well evolved through out the play, their activities, dialect and leverage on the play depict them as the obedient passive kind of women. Gertrude is Hamlet's mother, a ruler who betrayed her married man and got seduced by the prince's uncle Claudius. She remarried with him and then complied every alignment from Claudius. Gertrude is objectified by Claudius, as he said: “my crest, mine own aspiration and my Queen.” To him the ruler is one of his possessions and not even recorded as the first. This proposed Gertrude is utilised by Claudius to get to the throne. The hasty wedding ceremony only a couple of weeks after her husband's death displays her large dependence on men. Hamlet's proclamation that he will “speak daggers to her, but use none” show that he perceives her to be inferior, feeble sufficient to drop stinking to his words. Overall, Gertrude is the kind of women that will not endure without a man in her life, with such a feeble soul she betrays her own married man and son. (Shakespeare 2007)

In Hamlet, the women proceed the little functions depicting their chronicled rank at the time. Although Gertrude is the Queen of Denmark and Ophelia is the prince's lovers, they have no standing in the humanity and their voices are not ever heard. Their activities and fates are substantially leveraged by the men's decisions. All their inhabits Ophelia and Gertrude are directed by the men's power; they simultaneously make a feeble likeness of reliant women at Shakespeare's time. (Shakespeare 2007)
