Officially, Sudan is Republic of Sudan. It is the largest country of Africa. Sudan is located on the north east Africa. It is present on geographical coordinates 150 North and 300 East. Sudan has a total area of 2.5 million square kilometers. Countries that share a border with Sudan are Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Congo, Chad and Libya. Red sea borders Sudan in the west. Sudan is considered as a featureless land, which is originally flat, but two distinguishing features in Sudan are desert and River Nile. In the west part of River Nile, there is Libyan Desert whereas in the east lies the Nubian Desert. No oasis or rainfall is abundant in these deserts. When the water table reaches the land, than wells are produced that provide water for caravans and nomads. Sudan's lush green forests and swampy grassland regions are providing habitat to pelithora of migrating wildlife. There are mountains in the west, south and northeast. Sahara desert is present in the northern part of Sudan. The highest point in Sudan is Kinyeti, which is about 3187 meters, whereas the lowest point is the Red Sea. The natural disasters that struck Sudan are periodic droughts and dust storms. The climate remains tropical in the South, whereas it is arid in the northern region (desert). Rain typically occurs throughout April and November, but it has variations depending on the area. Sudan is facing threats regarding to the protection of wildlife, soil erosion, droughts, and desertification. The river Nile and its two tributaries, the Blue Nile and the White Nile drain Sudan.
