Gender and Leadership

Statement of Bill Clinton: "We need not just a new generation of leadership but a new gender of leadership" ("Clinton pledges fidelity," 1992, p. A2).

Question 1)

I personally believe that both the genders play an important role in creation of proper leadership system as both these genders have specific qualities that differentiate them from one another. Bill Clinton has tried to make clarity to the world that we should not focus on gender specific leadership but rather focus on quality of leadership.

Question 2)

Leadership cannot be gender as it is a psychological element that is given to an individual and it can be developed further during the life time. It can be gender specific to those individuals who are near sighted, ignorant and close minded. In the past, it was believed that leaders are born and can never be made that was a completely false belief as leaders can be made and they cannot be ignored due to their gender. The leadership management trait such as leadership motivation, integrity and honesty, knowledge of business, charisma, flexibility, creativity, emotional maturity, self confidence and cognitive ability can be found in both genders (male and female) therefore, gender specific leadership should not be considered at all in all the spheres of life.

Currently, leadership positions are mainly in control of men, this is the main reason that they are stereotyped to be more effective leaders than women. Women have rarely found holding leadership positions, therefore it is totally against them to think that they would not be able to hold these critical positions. There is no data that can help us in identifying that are women more effective than men in leadership roles or not. So, for this we should give them equal chance to prove themselves (Ertac, 2012).
