Gender and Development Interventions

Introduction

This paper discusses the gender and development interventions to focus specifically on men. If one is sensitive to the fact that male socialization is an obstacle to the use of service and that men do not seek help or wait too long before seeking medical social services, however, it is less aware of the structural barriers, organizational and cultural support system that are active when a man comes to use these services. Speaking of intervention, we deliver some of our observations from studies with male customers, namely that the service delivery system imposes compliance requirements, skills presupposes that act as a filter for access to services and which function as conscious or unconscious to sift the clients who do not share the same culture. Access using assumed the responsibility of the customer; the customer assumes the attitude dulcet capacity to comply with this culture that is different from the male culture.

Gender and Development includes a series of commitments aimed at integrating gender analysis and participatory methods in research programs and policies and planning of agricultural and rural development (Rodrick, 2006, p. 24). A man today presents many challenges, the most important question the sexist patriarchal culture that has prevailed throughout the centuries. Implies evolution both personally and socially, is mature emotionally and gets rid of the prevailing macho obligations for the model of traditional masculinity.

The Male Reality

In order to understand the concept well, the object s to better understand the relationship between men's realities and social practices, including better knowledge of the request for help for people and the organization of services they receive. Social practices relate to actions by men or about the realities in the light, as well as the organizational context in which they take place.

The "male reality" is understood here as objective and subjective experiences experienced by men; whereas masculinity refers to the masculine gender mean and the social construction of men. Masculinity is plural, relational and situational. Its plurality recognizes that it can mean different things to different groups of people at different times (Brems, 1997, p. 136). Furthermore, masculinities are understood as relational constructs that individuals produce and reproduce in their interactions with other individuals but also in their relation to institutions. Nevertheless, masculinities are plural and relational, they are also situational. What it means to be a man indeed vary according to different social and institutional contexts. These settings differ depending on the culture, historical period, society and in life. From the perspective of integration and cohesion of the research program, the realities are studied in male cross according to the two goals of the general theme of research: understanding and intervention.

Gender Analysis

Gender analysis is used to identify gender-based differences in access to resources and decision-making in rural communities and households (IWTC, 1998, p.101). By understanding how the various members participate in the implementation of development measures and the latter affect them, who had won and who lost, gender analysis helps planners to avoid the ...
