The paper intends to conduct the research on the Gamay wines, its origin, and how it started producing. This research has been carried to get the in depth information about the Gamay wines as being the light weighted and low acidic wines. Moreover, the detailed account of Gamay grapes and their cultivation has also been mentioned in this study. The history and the origin of Gamay grapes have also been provided to understand its historical emergence and popularity since its appearance.
Gamay wines are the product of dark skinned grape which is harvested in Beaujolias and renowned for producing the red wines. These purple colored grapes are called Gamay grapes which are grown in the acidic soil. The acidic soil helps the Gamay grapes to soften the natural acidity that is present in the grapes. It also has the carbonic maceration inherently that is also the result of grape fermentation the high CO2 environment. The Gamay grapes have fruity flavors like raspberry and strawberry and its aroma is like pears (A Taste of Wine, 2012). The Gamay grapes produce the light and fruity wines that have low levels of tannis and medium levels of acidity. These wines can also be enjoyed by the young people due to its low acidity and delicious flavors (Swiss Wine, 2012). In short, the Gamay wines are produced with the Gamay grapes that have the fruity and refreshing flavor which makes the Gamay wines distinctive from the other wines. Due to its fruity flavor, it is mostly popular amongst the young people around the world.

The Gamay grapes have the history where it emerged in the Village of Gamay near Beaune for the first time in the fourteenth century (Johnson, 1989). The Beaujolais is the most densely region of wine in the entire world which contains vineyards from 9000 to 13000 vines per hectare. The history of Gamay grapes indicate that the grapes in the Beaujolais region have been growing since the Roman times. It has also been observed that there are numerous regions and appellations of the Beaujolais which happen to produce different kind of wine with different quality specifically through the Gamay grapes. The production of the Gamay grapes more easier than the other grapes. If the Pinot Noir variety of grapes is considered, Gamay grapes are ripened two weeks before the other grapes and specifically Pinot Noir as well as Gamay grapes are less difficult to cultivate. It can also be grown in large quantities as compared to other grapes. Moreover, besides Gamay Village, the gamay grapes are also grown in other regions such as in the Beaujolais region of France where in it is used to make the unique Beaujolais Nouveau which is also known as the fresh wine for the young people.
