Introduction

There are a large number of museums in Paris but Louvre is much grander in scope and leaves such a profound impact on the visitor that it can be considered to be an iconic experience. The Galerie d'Apollon is one of the highlights of the museum and has much to offer to the visitors in terms of the examples of the excesses of 17th century French royalty. Apart from these valuable artifacts and sculptures, the most dazzling part of the gallery is the painting at the center of the ceiling. The painting has much for those who look at it in terms of portraying the historical, social and cultural aspects of the time and is one that makes Galerie d'Apollon stand apart from all the other parts of the museum.

Discussion

The room has been recently restored and showcases a collection of crown jewels. Among necklaces bejeweled with large sapphires and crowns encrusted with diamonds and rubies is a crown of Louis XV which has beautiful jewels to look at. A 140-carat diamond, known as The Regent that he used to decorate his hat is also part of this main draw in the room. Commissioned by Louis XIV, also known as 'The Sun King', the gallery in the gold-encrusted room comprises of a large number of golden stucco sculptures and colorful paintings that portray the journey of the Roman sun god Apollo (Rynn, 2007).

The fire in 1661 in Louvre brought a lot of harm to the upper portion of the Petite Galerie which also included that of the Galerie Apollo. Charles Le Brun was commissioned to decorating the entire passage with that of the sun such that to represent the Roman sun god Apollo.
