Introduction

Forrest Gump, the 1994 blockbuster movie was directed by Robert Zemeckis and received critical and commercial success. The movie revolves around an upbeat character named Forrest Gump played by Tom Hanks. The story shows the various decades of the life of Forrest Gump who is a dim-witted and immature individual. Hailing from Alabama, Forrest Gump is shown to be an athletic person who goes through some of the shaping events of his life and the 20th century, which ranges from 1945, the year of Forrest's birth, to 1983.

The movie is significantly different from the novel it is based on written by Winston Groom. Gump's personality in the movie and a number of events has been left out in favor of variation in either for the movie. Filming for the movie began in 1993 and was shot primarily in Georgia, North Carolina and some parts of Southern Carolina. The movie included visual effects that were employed to infuse the character in the archive footage used in a number of scenes. A soundtrack was also created for the movie which made use of music to identify the various time periods in the movie. Commercially, the soundtrack was a success and sold more than twelve million copies all around the world (Bates, 1995).

The character is symbolic of the manner in which we desire to handle the issues that come our way during our lifetime and actually we should approach the problems to resolve them given that karma is on our side. Even after Bubba passed away, Forrest decided to start his own business of shrimping and support Bubba's family. Generally, most of the people would be left disheartened at the death of their best friend and would be unable to gather the courage to fulfill their promises made to their friend.
