Transcendentalism was a movement, which affected the reaction against rationalism of the eighteenth century, and expressed the general trend of development of humanistic thought of the nineteenth century. This movement was at its core belief in the unity of the world and God. The soul of each individual was considered identical with the world and represented the world in miniature. The doctrine of "trust yourself" and individualism developed by convincing the reader that the soul of man is connected with God and identified with him (Spinelli, 2000).
