Victims of violence and the abuse health care system are important for a health professional in order to determined that where things went wrong such as sexual assault, interpersonal violence, neglect or other form of intentional injury (Nies & McEwen, 2007). The relationship between Forensic nursing and their community is an essential and core component of any health care system (Ewers et.al, 2002). Statistics indicates that around 6.9% of Hispanics, 4.4% of Blacks and 2.2 % of while female inmates suffered from Human immunodeficiency Virus. This paper discuss the importance of Forensic nursing in health care setting, especially define their role to those women who sent to prison for their offense.
Community
Forensic nursing are those who specialized for patient health who become a victim of trauma. These are the nurse who goes beyond from medical care and also have some specialized knowledge about country legal system. These nurses play their importance to women and adolescents in prison who offend crime. Study indicates that the majority of female prisons were unmarried; mothers of those children who are under the age of 18 years and daughters who had mature in homes but without their present parents. It was also indicating that before toward the inside in prison were huge percentage of these women had experienced either physically or sexually abused. There are 75% women prison grew in the New York in the last decade that is reaching almost 98,000 in 2013. After attending to a patient, forensic nurse often collect evidence and provide medical testimony in court with legal authorities.
National Statistics
The Bureau of Justice Statistics indicates that there has been 26% growth in forensic nursing since 2010 that is a positive sign for New York State. On the other side, study also suggests that there were more than 65,000 mothers in Jail who reported having 150,000 children's under the age of 18 years. 50% of women in prison reports under the power of alcohol or drugs at the time of crime and using drugs months prior to the offense (Loucks, 2004). Percentage of women who had used cocaine increased 35% in 2002 to 48% in 2009. About 71% women's had served a previous sentence in order to incarceration or probation including 18% are those who had served a sentence as a young (Loucks, 2004). In addition, there are 2/3 of the female prison had at least one child who is younger than 18 years and these statistics leads up to 68,000 minor children.
Ethical Implications
The ethical issues surrounding research on the human population requires the serious consideration. There are numerous ethical problems that suffered by most evident and oppressive in the locked detention facilities such as Jails and prison.
