This paper has been written with regards to the club versus country row that has appeared in different forms since the past fifteen years. The paper further discusses the analysis of the role of G.14 and G.18 has been done which got replaced by European Club Association. Furthermore, FIFA and UEFA with regards to international governing bodies in resolving disputes have also been discussed as well as the role of the national associations.
Arguments
In the recent times, there are many players who have pulled themselves out of the international games because of the possibility of getting injured or to avoid aggravating the injury they have already received. There are many football teams from which some play on a national level in World Cup while the others play within the other teams in the United Kingdom. Since World Cup comes after every four years, the teams that play within are more active and are in practice. Moreover, attention is not paid to the welfare of the players and sponsors are only concerned about earning revenues by wining matches. Players get injured when their schedules are overloaded which is the reason why private football result in miscellaneous damages. Players are not recognized, and injuries that get caused during the games that are unofficial are not monitored (Giulianotti 1999, pp. 100).
Role of G.14/18 and European Club Association
G-14 existed between 2000 and 2008. It was an organization of the European football clubs that consisted of fourteen teams when it came into existence initially. The founding members included famous names such as Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Porto, PSV, Ajax, Juventus, Milan, Internazionale, Marseille, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain. Since the clubs had spread worldwide, it had won 250 league titles from which three were from Italy while two came from Spain, France, Germany, Netherlands and England while one was from Portugal. Moreover, it had also won European Club forty-one times from fifty-one seasons that took place. Later onwards, the number of teams increased to eighteen, however, in 2008, it got disbanded, and European Club Association replaced it. This represented hundred clubs after it had a deal with FIFA. The Association of European Clubs is an organization of European football clubs represents the common interests in talks with UEFA, FIFA, FIFPRO and the European Union ECA clubs that represent fifty-three different countries. The goal of this club is the protection and promotion of interests of the club in European football clubs as well as providing social protection. The members of European Club Association are high ranking, and the body represents cross-section of clubs all over Europe (Williams 2010, pp. 50).
Role of FIFA and UEFA in Resolving Disputes
