Introduction

Foodborne disease is the illness resulted from the intake of contaminated beverages or food. This illness includes infections and foodborne intoxication that are most of the time incorrectly considered as food poisoning (Osterholm & Taylor, 2009). Every year, around 48 million of people get sick due to intake of contaminated food. In this paper, we will discuss the measures to control foodbrone outbreak together with investigative and administrative activities to prevent the future outbreak.

Prolonged preventive measures of food born outbreak require the efforts of several partners of food chain from farm to table (WHO, 2008). Some preventive measures include following:

The quality assurance program at farms poultry farm

Safe agricultural activities for farmers

Maintainence of shellfish harvest beds without sewage contamination

Inspection system at meat processing plant

Pasteurization, irradiation, canning and further measures for killing of pathogens from food processing

Buyer specification for food-safety in the food-purchasing contracts.

Training for food workers and restaurant managers for food safety and sanitation measures.

The administrative and planning activities for the control of future foodborne outbreak include the investigation for prevalence of foodborne outbreak in the society. Simultaneously, particular interventions like recalling a food product or closing of food premise are other administrative activities. In addition, the removal of implicated food from the marker is one more measure to prevent future outbreak (Osterholm & Taylor, 2009).

Moreover, communication with the general public is another significant step. The administrative bodies should issue a press release in order to notify the general public.
