Discuss the author's concept of parents being "mirrors" as well as consequences of the "quality" of that mirror.

The concept of parents being a mirror to what kids will develop as has a profound and yet complex meaning. Kids aren't born with a picture of them-selves. Instead they create a perception of them -selves and how treasured and love-able they really are with time influenced by their relations with their primary care-givers and the way these individuals deal with them. The way parent deal with needs, requests and activities of children indicate them if they are being considered worthwhile or clumsy by parents (Daly, 2000).

Furthermore the way you handle yourself teaches your children how to handle themselves. In that way also parent act as a mirror and quality of mirror have considerable consequences. If parents are unrealistic, pessimistic and confused about child's behavior then a child might reflect the same. He builds his self-picture from the words, body language, attitudes, and judgments of others and judges himself according to his own observation of himself in comparison with others and others' responses to him. However if parent are optimistic and confident, kids might eventually turn out to be confident. Furthermore providing Kids with self confidence is another very important aspect of being psychological mirror. Trusting and reassuring your child in every aspect of life is a very important component in this regards.
