Abstract

Firewall serves as a linkage in a network that allows only those authorized data packets that need to be accessed by the end users. Firewall in an extremely beneficial and necessary tool that an organization needs against threats and unwanted access to the network by an external source. The Purpose of this report is to examine how firewall works to provide a secure network under the designed firewall policies. The further assessment will be made by evaluating the performance of the firewall installed in the network infrastructure of the company that would allow specific IP protocols to be accessed only. With reference to the type of firewall used it will be determined that what impact is laid on the network, how secure is the transfer of data through the network and how the data is restricted to be accessed by other users.

Introduction

The network security of any organization needs to be protected from all sorts of risks and threats that come in its ways. Security measurements must be taken to protect the internal data to be exploited and to keep the network architecture secure. Firewalls have been introduced to provide security measurements to the networks infrastructure. An efficient and effective firewall allows the transfer of permissible data or packet between the network and the internet.

Fiscal Point and Company is a finance company that provides monetary fund to different small business units in form of loans. With increasing business demands it has become essential for the company to ensure security measurements and protect confidential data from exploitation or being leaked outside the company for any mean reasons.

The company has installed Cisco Adaptive Security Appliances in the network infrastructure of the company to provide utmost security to the network.

Discussion

Rationale and Scope

The purpose of implementing the firewall in the network infrastructure of the company is to restrict the access of confidential data to the employees of other departments other than those concerned. This step has been taken to prevent exploitation of the internal data by the employees of other departments in the organization. Further it aims to restrict the access of data that is not required by the company and could be a source of threat and risk to the networking sector.

Implementation of Firewall in the Organization

Technology has taken charge in the business industry. The revolution of information technology has influenced different organizations to implement the IT infra structure to manage work process efficiently. Fiscal Point and Company has been serving its customers through financing for the past 5 years. With time secure network and process has become a necessity approach to ensure utmost protection within the network infrastructure and prevent exploitation of confidential documents.
