Fire Service Leader: Fire Chief Ralph J. Scott

Introduction

The main purpose of this paper is to make an analysis on the professional life of Fire Chief Ralph J. Scott of Los Angeles “City” Fire Department. The paper makes analyses on the reasons that made Fire Chief Ralph J. Scott notable. The paper also makes discussion on his leadership positions and accomplishments. The paper is also an overview of the ways through which Ralph's leadership has made improvements in the American Fire Service, and the initiatives which he championed. Lastly, the paper gives an overview on the learning from the example of Fire Chief Ralph J. Scott.

Discussion

There are hardly very few fire fighters who would make conflict from the statement that the procedure of firefighting is a complex procedure. The procedure of firefighting needs complex technical occupation and it is not as easy as it is seen. There is a great contribution of a highly motivated chief located in Los Angeles City Fire Department, and his name was Ralph J. Scoot. Ralph's services have played a very important role in the Fire Department of United States (Ditzel, 12). It is Ralph's contribution that turned the fire services from an avocation to the profession in a very short span of time. Scott was the youngest candidate of all, and his age was just 34 when he has been appointed as the chief engineer by Mayor Meredith P. Snyder. According to Snyder, the whole department likes him because of his highly motivated and professional skills. The department people have admired his professional skills because of his keen research on the different protective and fire fighting methods. On the other hand, some professionals in fire fighting services have claimed that among the fire chiefs i.e. professional fire Chiefs Scott was the first. The reasons behind is that he had worked on the high administration and leadership skills. He has placed more emphasis on the administration and leadership than fireground heroics. Scott has gained a remarkable growth, and has led towards remarkable increases in the innovating new technologies in Fire services (Loeper, 90).

The history of Ralph J. Scott is very remarkable and storied. He had made her involvement with the most of the important fires in Loss Angeles. He had served a very long period in the fire services. Scot has been appointed as the chief for only a period of one day. When he ahs been appointed as a chief engineer he was 34 years old. He was a young and vigorous chief and had a very good reputation. The members of the department had very good feelings for him, and he was well liked by them.

He has also led the establishment of a lafd fire college. He has always remained determined to make the curriculum of the college a comprehensive one.
