Section 1: Purpose and Scope of the Fire Prevention and Protection Program
The Fire prevention and protection program is essential to introduce in every community for keeping their safe from deaths, injuries, property damage, business interruption that results from fires and its related dangers. This program is aimed to ensure consistent and reasonable protection for property and people working in different organizations. It has a huge scope because this program is applicable to all school and university institutions, contractors, general public, organization's staff and property dealers. CCR “California Code of Regulations” under the title of 24 (24CCR) and 19 (19CCR), along with NFPA and OSHA standards are the key sources employed in this protection program (NFPA, 2003).
The basic purpose of this program is to introduce policies and procedures that would make sure the compliance of prevention program whenever some hazardous event takes place. The scope of this program is extensive because it will discuss various fire prevention and protection program implementations. Every individual is responsible to be aware with fire protection measures as it is necessary to have such information for life saving purpose.
Section 2: Employer and Employee Responsibilities
It is the responsibility of employer to learn safety and health training programs for their employee safety. The employer must instruct each and every employee of the company about the safety measures and policies are being followed in that organization. It is essential for controlling and even eliminating hazards and other fire exposures within an organization. On the other hand, employees have the responsibility to follow those rules and avoid spoiling such safety measures (www.ehs.uci.edu). It has been observed that usually employees take such fire safety measures as a joke and take as granted. But it is a cruel reality because once the fire breaks down somewhere, the threatening heat and harsh flames realizes a person about the importance of such fire prevention and protection programs.
Employers should carry out the assessment on fire risk and produce an emergency plan. Moreover, they should also make sure that employee must know about the existence of risk in the workplace. The event of emergency can take place any time, therefore; employees and employers both have to be alert about such measures. Employers should train their entire staff for knowing what to do in the entire fire. Furthermore, the maintenance of premises and fire facilities, devices and equipment is important to renew for regular maintenance.
