Introduction

In almost every other movie, the peculiarity between the “good guys” and the “bad guys” is somewhat obvious. Not unexpectedly then, a huge part of what drives or boosts a plot is the great effort between the central character, or group of characters, and his opponent, in order that the issues between the two are mostly the primary highlight of any movie. Happy ending is the result of the victory of the central character over the opponent forces, and is a success for the good guys. Majority of the movies do conclude this way, and therefore the viewers have become experts at promptly discriminating between the two conflicting groups. In this paper we will critically analyze the film Braveheart which took place in country of Scotland in the thirteenth century. The foremost topic is the struggle of Scotland for freedom, however also there are some other topics such as faithfulness and love. The most important or the central character is “William Wallace”, who encourages the entire Scotland to struggle with him in opposition to the Englishmen. The film deals with various literary, dramatic, and cinematic aspects to show the viewer the true struggle of the Scots during this era. Mel Gibson does a good job of meshing these aspects of the film together to portray his viewpoint on the inequality brought about during this time period.

Discussion

The world has been plagued with inequality issues since the beginning of time. The film Braveheart portrays this issue magnificently. Braveheart, directed by Mel Gibson, was released in 1995 and since then has won a total of five Academy Awards that includes the 1995 Best Picture Award and the Best Director Award for Mel Gibson who also played the central character of the movie. Based on a real story, Braveheart comes to pass in the late thirteenth century in Scotland. The hero of the movie, William Wallace (Mel Gibson) gets back to Scotland after living far away from his native soil for several years. The ruler of Scotland has passed away with no successor and the ruler of England, a coldblooded and cruel man named as Edward the Longshanks, has detained the kingdom.
