FastWheels Limited Bicycle Rental Company has significantly grown in its business operations due to the increasing development of parks in Singapore. Currently, the company relies on manual record keeping system for executing the transaction processing operations. However, the manual system has certain limitations that make the process of data management tedious and less comprehensive.

According to the scenario at Fastwheels, there is a need to use computers for better data storage and manipulation. The computerized system will help Fastwheels in their business processes by making the data about customers, cycle rentals, revenue generated and other similar factors easily available.

Summary

Fastwheels has significantly grown in its business operations. The employees considered manual record keeping and management systems significant up till now. However, now as the operations are being growing day by day and so does the generated data, the employees are facing serious problems that relate to record keeping and data handling. For example, the manual system does not allow the employees to figure out any cycle that was not returned in time, especially on the weekends or public holidays. Similarly, as they have no clear picture about the number of customers arriving any specific park on any given day, often they feel problems in staff allocation which results in performance degradation of the company, as the customers have to wait for their turn in long queues. Also, due to the physical diverse locations, it has become very difficult to consolidate the sales and revenue generated from each park, at one centralized location. In addition, due to the increasing demands of cycles on weekends and public holidays, the company has to bear significantly extra amount of money to the large number of workers that engage in the manual transaction recording process.

Research shows that computerized infrastructure plays a vital role in the improvement of company's efficiency (Rainer R.K. & Turban E., 2008). As this is the age of information, Fastwheels can conveniently deploy computers along with information and communication technologies (ICT) for efficient data handling. The computerized data management systems will provide a cost effective solution to the problem faced by the company in their data handling activities.

The use of computers will help the employees in keeping track of the sales made any day. They will be able to generate customized reports on daily, weekly and monthly basis. The stored data will provide the complete picture about number of customers arriving at different parks. The above discussed are just few of the business benefits the computerized system will bring to the company; It will just transform the business and data handling process of Fastwheels. The objective of this case study is to propose a competent solution to FastWheels Limited to overcome the constraints and drawbacks of manual system, improve operation efficiency and increase employees productivity to achieve cost effectiveness.
