I have several favorite music artists, among which Mathangi Arulpragasam also known as M.I.A. is the one whose artistic work attracts me. The reason of such is that the music by M.I.A. is based on the new and different concepts, that is, it makes me to think out of the box. In this study, I included two songs of Mathangi Arulpragasam that are “Bad Girls by M.I.A.” and “Bring The Noize by M.I.A.”
“Bad Girls” was a mid-tempo R&B song with the aspects of Indian hooks and Middle Eastern. The structure of song was based on synths, careening beats which was motivated by an SOS signal rhythm, syncopated drums and Eastern sounds. The chorus of song was one of those “boffo pop choruses” that Mathangi Arulpragasam could toss off when she intended to, at the same time mentioning the chorus as being in the same vein as that of “XXXO” which was song from the third studio album that is Maya (2010) by MIA. In my view, the song “Bad Girls” was the attracting song M.I.A had worked on since the album ala (2007) that is “Paper Planes”. The instrumentation of the song consisted of blorps mixed down and background bleeps, and the percussion turned up from, though still recalls, the original mix tape version.
With respect to the lyrics of the song that is “Bad Girls by M.I.A.”, the song investigates the themes pertaining to feminism and sexual empowerment. Mathangi Arulpragasam admits that “living fast, die young, bad girls do it well” and “My chain hits my chest when I am banging on the radio” in a casual affected song.
