Introduction

The paper intends to describe the case briefing of one of the famous criminal cases in the history of United States. The rates of violent crimes in US have significantly increased since the last two decades. The history indicates thousands of cases which terrorized the citizens from its unacceptable conducts that harmed and endangered the safety and welfare of the public. The United States has very dark history of extreme and heinous criminal offenses in the world.

The statistics indicate that the rate of victims has increased from 19.3 per thousand persons to 22.5 per thousand persons during the previous year. Moreover, as per the statistics around 1.8 million serious violent crimes occurred last year which included the crimes of aggravated assault, sexual assault, and robbery (Frieden, 2012).

The main focus of the paper is to briefly explore the criminal case while highlighting the summation of case, facts about case, and court decision against the criminal. For this concern, the case of Kristen Gilbert has been provided who was the well trained nurse but she found guilty in 2001 for her violent act of killing her patients at the Veterans Administration Medical Central in Northampton. She was known as the angel of death as she was accountable to kill her patients who arrived at the hospital in search of care. The case has been described to reveal the proceedings and the underlying facts. However, the case of Kristen Gilbert is known as the most brutal case in the history of United States as the convict was involved in the inhumane activity under the property of government.

Kristen Gilbert was an American serial killer who offended three first degree murders, one second degree murder, and two attempted murders at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Massachusetts. The case history indicates that she killed her patients by giving them epinephrine injections. Her criminal acts were revealed when her colleagues and co-nurses reported that too many patients died under the supervision of Kristen. Moreover, they also reported that there was the inexplicable shortage of epinephrine which is drug that stimulates the heart. The report of the co-nurses inspired for the investigation (Loiaconi, 2013). The toxicology analysis under the investigation exposed the presence of the epinephrine in their tissues when the dead bodies of the patients were exhumed. Moreover, this drug had never been prescribed for those patients then how come that reached into their bodies. In addition to it, her boy friend who was the member of the hospital security also confirmed that she admitted to him that she had killed the patients by injecting them epinephrine (Brigham, 2004). Also, one of the nurses suspected her mysterious activities and counted the epinephrine bottles in the afternoon and when the cardiac emergency occurred there were bottle and the broken containers were disposed of in the trash bucket (Ramsland, 2012).
