Facility and Security Management

Introduction

Facility management is the broad range of different disciplines that are used to ensure the functionality of the built environment by integrating place, people, technology and process. It is an integrated and multi disciplinary field which is devoted for the effective coordination of infrastructure, space, organization and people. All these components are connected to the administration of arena, office blocks, convention centers, schools, shopping complexes, hospitals, hotels and other different organizations. The scope of facility management activities is much wider than the business activities and they are generally referred to non-core operations. Facility management industry is getting more competitive by the time due to the continuous development and innovation. Effective facility management results in cost reduction while adding value to core organizational activities (CFM, 2009).

The process of security management starts with the identification of assets which include all types of tangible and intangible assets. The identification phase is proceeded by the development, documentation and implementation of the procedures and policies for the protection of the assets. Security management process is commonly employed by almost all business organizations and the procedures include classification, information, process of risk assessment and risk analysis to evaluate the nature of threats, categorize the assets and rate the threat according to the level of threats (Dhillon, 2000).

The leakage of classified information of the organization can prove lethal if it reaches the hands of its competitors. Similarly without the active support of facility management, the core activities of the companies cannot reach the optimum level. That not only has negative impact of the performance of the employees but also tends to decrease the potential of high profits.
