Introduction

Technology has entirely changed the face and definition of socializing. Socializing had a total different meaning in ancient times. One could not think of being connected to the whole globe just by sitting at home. Back then, socializing meant to meet with other individual in person to acquire one's social purposes; or physically take part in social activities, in order to know some other person better and make acquaintances. However, one does not even need to go back to ancient time in order to distinguish between socializing of the contemporary era and ancient times. Even a decade ago, socializing almost had the same meaning as it had in ancient time. However, today, technology, especially internet has provided with a viral platform to socialize.

Social network or networking entails, a computerized or technical platform provided to almost all individuals having internet at their disposal, to connect and socialize with the network, group or acquaintances of their choice. This social networking is executed mainly on websites having their respective domain.

There have been numerous social networking sites, ever since the internet took a boost; however, some managed to cope up with the trends and changing demands of the customers, but some extinguished and eliminated with time. Social networking can take many forms, it can be talking to your friends, sharing with them your daily experiences, your photo graphs, your videos, and even your future ambitions in terms of business commercial perspective. Orkut, MySpace, YouTube, Twitter, Flicker, Bebo, blogging sites and many more come under the umbrella of social networking.

History of Facebook

Facebook is the most successful networking site, to date. It was launched in early 2004; and in almost a short span of seven years Facebook has the forum of almost 800 million active users. Primarily Facebook was launched for the purpose of sharing photographs, later on several other features were added to its domain. Such as profile updates, relationship status, status updates, comments on statuses and photographs, sharing etc, which increased its popularity, attracted enormous users and captivated them as no one did before.

However, Facebook took many names and shapes, and went under different developmental phases before it was officially launched as Facebook in one region after another. Facebook is proudly owned by its founder Mark Zuckerberg, who was a student of Harvard, and it was there where the idea of social networking site was conceived by Zuckerberg, and his best friend. However, he was even accused by three of his seniors at Harvard to have stolen their idea of creating a social networking site and made his competing product instead. However, by 2010 Facebook undoubtedly became the biggest social networking site in the world.
