Abstract

In the modern world the superiority in aerial combat is a priority for any army in the world, especially when traditional powers struggle maintain its military superiority against new emerging economies. This need has led to the rise in research and development of new combat aircraft capable of removing a variety of objectives through efficient flight skills with ever higher and the advantage of being virtually invisible to enemy radar. In this paper, design, structure, and operational characteristics of F-22 Raptor are presented.

Background of F22 Raptor

The F-22 Raptor has a long and intricate history. The time, it has taken in its development, has been quite long, even compared with other aircraft, in its complexity and the amount of controversy it has endured. It all starts at the beginning of this decade, when the USAF became concerned about the development of a new generation of Soviet fighters, especially the MiG-29 Fulcrum and Su-27 Flanker.

These planes were constructed by using metal alloys that reflected much the radar. Their engines had relatively short lives. But its aerodynamic design was impeccable, which put them at par with the F-15, and their radars and sensors were much improved, with capabilities previously unseen in Soviet aircraft. Other design details, its long range and ability to carry large quantities of weapons did nothing to calm the U.S. military leaders.

Concern for the future development and growth of these planes caused the USAF to develop a set of requirements for a new jet fighter1. The ATF program was initiated by Advanced Tactical Fighter (Advanced Tactical Fighter). The result of this program was the establishment of a fighter that was to replace F-15 Eagle when it could no longer cope with the new generation of Soviet fighters.

Role in the US Air Defense

The Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor is a stealth fighter aircraft developed by the United States in the late 1980s to replace the F-15 U.S. Air Force. Originally designed for air combat, it is also capable of providing military support missions on the ground electronic attack or intelligence électromagnétique2 home. Lockheed Martin is responsible for most of the aircraft, the weapon system, and final assembly. Boeing defense division has in turn provided the wings and rear fuselage and was responsible for integration of avionics.

The F-22 was constructed so that it can reach very high incidence angles while remaining completely controllable, and recover safely after flying high impact without using the vectored thrust. The wing is situated well back and horizontal stabilizers are so close that the flaps trailing edge of the wing are indented so as not to interfere with their leading edge. Governments work symmetrically for pitch and differentially for roll. When the vector nozzles operate, they provide most of the ...
