Board Paper for Export Strategy for UK

Introduction

Our current business involves manufacturing and selling footballs in European countries including Spain and France. We produce top quality footballs here in Pakistan and export the same to two European countries. Our manufacturing and product quality is standardized and certified by the ISO. However, we have long felt that we needed to expand to other European countries. However, Germany does not appear to be a very big market for our footballs. On the other hand, UK is the biggest market in the world for footballs. Consequently, we desired to export our football to the UK. We had been waiting for the right opportunity to export our first-quality footballs to the UK. Now, that we have received proposals from our future partners in the UK that we had met in the international trade fair held in Finland, we look forward to responding to their proposal.

Recommendations

It is highly recommended that the company exports its sole product of quality footballs to the UK market for footballs. The UK market is the biggest market in the world for footballs. It is clear that we have the excess and scalable capacity available in our manufacturing factory for exporting the product to UK. In addition, we also have the necessary financial and management resources available at hand to expand to the UK market. We already have ample expertise in export matters; therefore, we will not require gaining any further expertise in knowing how to export. Finally, the UK market has been actively selected and we must forthwith respond to the proposal received from the distributor based in UK.

Further, it is recommended that the company follow a specific strategy to export to the UK market. This strategy revolves around accepting the proposal received from the UK distributor of footballs to major UK stores, including sports emporia. This distributor already accepts footballs from manufacturers based in India. However, our UK export strategy will be different as it will export footballs to the UK-based distributor by utilizing the specialized services of the freight forwarder (to be selected). Our current logistical capability does not allow us to further scale our logistics operation which is already inefficient. We hope to move all future operations to this freight forwarder who will look after the entire outbound logistics supply-chain of our manufacturing and export operation.

Background

Our business has been throughout to manufacture and export footballs to Europe. However, now we expect to be exporting our product to UK as well. The trade fair in which we found our future partner was organized by the Finnish government. We thought it the best way to take that opportunity and identify at least one new market for our good, preferably UK. Consequently, we are able to benefit from the current WTO regime in place. We do not face any tariff or non-tariff based trade barriers under the GATT (General Agreement on Tariffs and ...
