CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

Background of the study

Numerous Muslims from Asian countries and African countries are migrating to the western countries like Germany, France, and UK (Devji, 2008, 10). The images of the Muslims are affected negatively after many terrorist attacks in London, US and many other international countries (Achcar, 2002, 55). The Muslim extremist group al-Qaida has portrayed a negative image of Muslims and Islam and as a result, innocent Muslim communities are paying cost of that. Citizens of Germany, UK and France consider Muslim communities as a terrorist people and they do not give respect to them (Crockatt, 2003, 19). This research study is conducted for finding out about the perception of international community about the Muslim communities' existence in UK, Germany and France. The study also finds out whether the Muslim communities existence is a international security threat or not.

Problem statement

The world trade centre attack in 1993 and different terrorists' attacks in the western countries by the Muslim extremists group has made difficult for other Muslims communities to declare themselves innocent. After the 9/11 terrorist attack in USA, the western countries have become more and more conscious about their security concerns. The international communities or western countries perceive Muslims communities as an international threat. The Muslims living in Germany, France, and UK are struggling hard to prove them as an innocent people but the terrorists' activities by other extremist groups are making their position suspicious.
