Introduction

'Colossians' is the most Jesus Centered book of Bible's New Testament which highlights the preeminence of Jesus and the power with which he enlightened the suffering mankind. This magnificent book responds to the several questions of religious scholars, enlightening those who were derailed from the correct path. Written in 61 or 62 AD, the letter actually addressed the newly converted Christians of Colossae, who were subjected to the false teachings in the name of Church. People were dragging out from the original Christian teachings in an effort to understand the phenomenon of deity of God considering being on the right track. Overall, the letter spoke about the magnificence of Jesus Christ. The diversified content of the letter addressed various issues in light of the holy teachings as taught by Christ himself. The messages of the Gospels were apparently been changed with slight variations and additions to the original teachings and scriptures. Paul addressed the Christian community in Colossae reminding them about the actual teaching of the Christ. He stressed that Christ is superior. He wrote more about Christ in the letter reminding the Christians that they no longer belong to the religion they followed earlier. Now they are Christians and they ought to follow the teachings of Christianity as described by Christ. Their lives now revolve around Christ who freed mankind from the evil forces. He also taught them the Christian rules of living according to the religious teachings. In this paper we attempt to address the two major issues highlighted by Paul. The focus of this paper will remain to the first chapter of the Colossians covering verses 21 - 29.

Overview

“Colossians” is the 12th book of Bible's New Testament which was written by Paul, one of the apostles of Jesus Christ to the church in Colossae. It is stated that Paul wrote this letter during 60 to 62 AD. The prime objective of the letter was to condemn the prevailing false teachings and show the right path according to the divine scriptures and religious education to the newly converted Christian community in Colossae. These bogus teachings were creating troubles for the church. These teachings were basically a mixture of Jewish teachings, Greek beliefs and false theology based on mysticism. Some of them were the observance of Sabbath, performing circumcision rites which in reality is the part of Jewish legalism, worshipping angels like many Greek followers along with several other Greek practices including ...
