Introduction

For Christians, the Holy Bible has great importance in their lives and routine activities. True Christians base their lives on the words of God as pronounce by Jesus Christ in the gospels. It is significant that Jesus Christ is the Messiah and Savior of the world, so His teachings are very important for Christians in order to continue peaceful living on earth. The Gospel that has been selected for analysis in this exegetical paper is the Gospel of John. The Gospel of John presents an account and a summary of the public ministry of Jesus Christ and the miracles and important teachings of Jesus Christ. The Gospel of John begins with the affirmation and witness of John the Baptist and ends with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and the appearances of Jesus Christ that occurred after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The number of the Gospel of John among the numerical order of the gospels in the Holy Bible is fourth. The core focus of this exegetical paper is to focus on the John 14: 1-15. The paper will include developing the setting towards the understanding of this Biblical passage and then explaining the concept behind the words spoken by Jesus Christ in this passage.

Setting the Stage: Introduction to John 14: 1-15

The passage that has been selected for analysis and discussion for this exegetical paper includes the words of Jesus Christ in which He speaks to His disciples about the sufferings that He will bear and He will be departing from them in some time. It is obvious that the focus of this paper is to concentrate on Chapter 14 of the Gospel of John, but in order to understand it completely it is important to review a verse from Chapter 13. In verse 33 of John Chapter 13, Jesus Christ said, “Little children, I am with you a little while longer. You will seek Me, and as I said to the Jews, now I also say to you, Where I am going you cannot come.” By studying the verses 36 to 38, we find that Simon Peter asks Jesus Christ, “Simon Peter said to Him, Lord, where are you going?” This was asked because Jesus Christ has spoken to His disciples that He will be going to a place where His disciples could not follow Him.

It has been observed that it was a very disturbing fact for the disciples because they had spent their lives with Jesus Christ for about three and a half years and forgot everything else.
