Introduction

Evidenced Based Practice in the nursing profession is significantly important for a new graduate nurse as well as an experienced nurse because it gives the opportunity for nurses to research Evidenced Based Practice relating to current policies and procedures implemented at their work place. Nurses become more aware of what constitutes best practice and what ways we can improve our practice that will in turn benefit both patients and employers we work for. In my paper, I will be focusing on Evidenced Based Practice on policies and procedures relating to Indwelling Urinary Catheters care and management of including complications associated with administration and discontinuation. There has been extensive research based on the occurrence of complications associated with urinary catheters insertion and discontinuation and the duration that the catheter is in place for while hospitalized either in long term care or acute care settings. I will also elaborate on contributing factors that have led to complications with catheter insertion (Robinson et al., 2007).

Clinical Significance

The evidence-based practice as a general concept was initially addressed by doctors as an approach aimed at solving the problems encountered in daily practice. Consequently, the daily work of individual staff is where you will use the clinical evidence. Therefore, evidence-based nursing will emerge from the scientific evidence is of clinical competence that everyone has in a given area and the user's opinion, which is very important but is still used term patient, the patient requires more and more and more involved in the decision of their care.

Importance of Evidenced Based Learning

Evidence-based learning proposes a new model for doing things. It becomes a clinical problem in a question and from that question, seeking references and scientific evidence to support the proposed action. It is a tool for improving practice and care of the people we serve daily. This definition dates from 2002 and proposed a group of nurses in Granada. It is a movement to bring a new model of clinical practice, which requires a change in thinking and how to approach the work, which is to apply in practice, those facts whose validity is proven scientifically. It is no longer a given principle that guides, but has found that something is true using a methodology designed for this purpose, used to make decisions about caring for each patient separately (Fernandez, Griffiths, & Murie, 2006).
