1) Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) has its origins in medicine, beginning its development in Canada from the discipline of clinical epidemiology, where the group Sackett, in the late 70's, trying to incorporate research clinical decision making for patients. Another Canadian group led by Guyatt in the 90's promoted the use of mathematical-based research and statistical evidence (Brown 2009, 76).

At the same time the gap between books and periodical literature, the variability in clinical care in patients with the same disease (Grove 2003, 87), the gap between scientific and clinical practice, and the gap between research and practice facilitated the birth of this new paradigm. Evidence-Based Nursing (EBN) develops later in English-speaking countries, initially taking a positivist framework of medicine. In recent years there have been various definitions of EBE. Thus, in England Grove, Cannon EBE defined as the process by which nurses make clinical decisions using the best available evidence supported the research, clinical experience and patient preferences in the context of available resources. At the same time Brown (2009) defines EBE as "conscious, explicit and judicious use of information derived from research-based theory for making decisions about care delivery to individuals or groups taking into account their individual needs and preferences. And expand later to a qualitative paradigm, the First Meeting held in Granada on EBE 2002 (Cannon 2009, 98) provides a new definition that complements the positivist view of the above definitions.
