The procedure in the surgical floor that needs to be changed

Prolonged bed rest after percutaneous cardiac catheterization

The main purpose of the usage of cardiac catheterization in the initial stage was to diagnose the hemodynamics, coronary anatomy and ventricular function. With the passage of time new devices have entered in the market that made the catheterization a supreme tool used for the diagnosis of the heart diseases and their treatment. These days the most widely used tool used for the surgeries in United States is percutaneous coronary procedures.

Cardiac catheterization is a medical procedure in which a long, thin, flexible tube called a catheter is inserting into a blood vessel in the arm, groin, or neck and threaded to your heart. A special dye is injecting though the catheter which will make the inside of the coronary arteries show up on an x ray. This is called coronary angiography. Blockages in the coronary arteries also can be seen using ultrasound during cardiac catheterization. Through the catheter, doctors can do diagnostic tests and treatments on your heart. Doctors may take samples of blood and heart muscle during cardiac catheterization and do minor heart surgery (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2009). The prospect of cardiac catheterization can be stressful because the procedure may lead to a definitive diagnosis of CHD, which would confirm the presence of a life-threatening medical condition requiring subsequent treatment and exceptional lifestyle alterations. The procedure of Cardiac catheterization is very special, and includes a flexible tube which is known as catheter inside the vein and reach towards the heart. Cardiac catheterization is a procedure to evaluate the anatomy and the pressure in the different chambers of the heart or arteries or veins that make up the cardio-circulatory system. For such, effect is used plastic hollow tubes called catheters, which possess an approximate diameter of 2 mm (Bradt, 2009). Through the catheter is possible to inject a dye that allows pacification and view the various cardiovascular structures and otherwise measure and record pressure located at any anatomic site that integrates the cardiovascular system. Cardiac catheterization is performed in a special room called catheterization room or catheterization laboratory, which consists of a table in which the patient is made to lie down. Around the table already the height of the thorax of the patient is an arc shaped "U" the what possesses in one of its ends an X ray emitter apparatus and at the other end a system that allows radiation capture, amplify the image obtained and convert it into a computerized digital subtraction to visualize and analyze detailed angiographic images obtained through a screen.
