Introduction

The world had never before witnessed a terrorist event as tragic as the attacks of 9/11. Millions of people lost their lives and millions of others were left in everlasting misery and misfortune. The world has been terrified in the literal sense. The echoes of terror and fear are still audible, even after years have passed after the incident. Societies regained consciousness on their vulnerability as victims of future terrorist attacks (Kellner, 2003). Countries became increasingly concerned for their rescue and safety. Governments expanded their budgets on the security and defense of the homeland apart from taking domestic measures for internal conflicts resolution. The vulnerability of each state became questionable after the super power had been attacked this brutally.

This paper will be discussing the event of the terrorist attack in US. In the second part of the essay it will be discussing the how this event affected business from a security stand point. This topic is necessary to be learnt as nowadays terrorist threats are increasing and US in taking initiatives in order to fight against the terrorist and make peace globally. This initiative will also help business to recover their security and will make them able to retain their business positions.

The Event the Happened On 9/11/01

An act of terrorism occurred on September 11, 2001 (sometimes referred to as simply 9 / 11). It is a series of four coordinated suicide terrorist attacks that occurred in the United States. Officially, the responsibility for the attack lies with the terrorist organization "Al Qaeda". That morning nineteen terrorists, presumably related to the "Al-Qaida", divided into four groups, hijacked four passenger cruise liner. Each group had at least one member that has passed the initial flight training (Friedman, 2005).

The invaders sent two of the airliners into the towers of the World Trade Center, located in the southern part of Manhattan in New York. American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the World Trade Center Tower 1 and United Airlines Flight 175-WTC tower in 2. As a result, both towers collapsed, causing severe destruction of adjacent structures. A third plane (American Airlines Flight 77) was directed to building the Pentagon, near Washington. Passengers and crew of the fourth aircraft (United Airlines Flight 93) attempted to take control of the aircraft by terrorists, the plane crashed in a field near the town of Shenksvill in the state of Pennsylvania (National Commission on Terrorist Attacks upon the United States, 2004). In addition to the 19 terrorists were killed as a result of attacks in 2974 people, another 24 were missing. Most of the dead were civilians. The official version of what happened has been criticized by some journalists, scientists, and witnesses of the tragedy. Conduct independent investigations, some of which were filmed documentaries.
